Alleged Robbers Cause Car Accident During Getaway on Washington, D.C. Street
Law enforcement arrested at least one man after a robbery getaway attempt on Washington, D.C., streets ended with a car crash.
The robbery, and subsequent auto accident, occurred on MacArthur Boulevard in the Palisades section of Washington, D.C. According to authorities, the events unfolded in the middle of the afternoon. The victim had just pulled his car into a gas station located on the 4800 block of MacArthur Boulevard Northwest, a quiet part of the Palisades. The victim was reportedly at the station to get gasoline for his motor vehicle.
As soon as the victim exited his car, a man allegedly walked up behind him, snatched a bag hanging off his shoulder, and got into a BMW 750. The other vehicle then reportedly drove off at a high rate of speed. However, the vehicle was reportedly going so fast that the getaway driver lost control and slammed into a tree. The robbery victim ran toward the crash scene and held a suspect at the site until DC Metro police officers could arrive.
The force of impact in the crash caused money to fly from the vehicle. Witnesses to the car accident could reportedly see cash lying all over the ground next to the mangled vehicle.
Police officers soon arrived at the scene of the crash and arrested the suspect.
The suspect who was placed under arrest by law enforcement will likely have to answer criminal charges in court. However, he may wind up being lucky if that is the end of his legal troubles. That’s because dangerous driving like this has the potential to go much worse and result in catastrophic injuries to other motorists and pedestrians.
When a driver, passenger, or pedestrian is hit by an out-of-control vehicle and sustains serious injuries, the person responsible for the accident may be liable for damages in a personal injury lawsuit. When things go truly bad and the other person is killed in the car accident, the crash victim’s loved ones may be able to file a wrongful death claim.
